Tikonze Apapa Launches Sign Language Initiative to Empower Teachers and Support Deaf Students

Program Activity

About This Activity

In a significant step toward inclusive education, Tikonze Apapa hosted a sign language initiative program this week aimed at equipping teachers with the skills to better support Deaf students in the classroom.

Educators from various schools, including Mary View Primary School, MUA School for the Deaf, and Mountain View Primary School, participated in the training sessions. The initiative focused on bridging the communication gap between teachers and Deaf students, fostering a more inclusive and understanding learning environment.

“This program is a game-changer,” said one of the participating teachers. “It’s not just about learning signs; it’s about creating a space where every student feels seen, heard, and understood.”

By improving sign language proficiency among teachers, the program enhances their ability to engage effectively with Deaf students both during and outside of lessons. Tikonze Apapa hopes that this is just the beginning of a wider movement toward accessible education for all.
