In a heartwarming display of solidarity and sustainability, DAPP (Development Aid from People to People) on Monday, 11th November 2024, has donated two large bells of clothes to Tikonze Apapa, a non-profit organization known for its commitment to supporting the Deaf community, especially through the creative outlet of design. The donation, aimed at promoting both environmental sustainability and empowering local designers, as a significant step in the partnership between DAPP and Tikonze Apapa, whose mission resonates with the values of inclusivity and artistic expression.
Obert Makawa, Administration Manager for DAPP, spoke with enthusiasm about the collaboration in a recent interview. He expressed that the decision to donate the clothes was inspired by Tikonze Apapa’s exceptional work in supporting the Deaf community and its unique approach to design. "We are truly inspired by Tikonze Apapa's mission, particularly their efforts to uplift the Deaf community through fashion and design. Their innovative approach in turning design into a platform for empowerment aligns with DAPP’s values of promoting sustainable development, social inclusion, and empowerment," Obert said.
In response to DAPP’s donation, Daniel Chirwa, administration officer at Tikonze Apapa expressed sincere gratitude, emphasizing the impact on their mission to empower the Deaf community through design. The organization highlighted how the donation will support local designers and promote sustainability. Tikonze Apapa also noted the shared values of inclusion and empowerment between the two organizations and expressed excitement for the continued collaboration.
