Tikonze Apapa lit up Blantyre with their vibrant and meaningful event, “Sustainable Satur-day”, a fashion show that brought together sustainability, inclusivity, and local talent in a spectacular celebration of creativity.

Held at the Tikonze Apapa Office, the fashion show was more than just a visual feast. It was a powerful statement about eco-conscious fashion and community empowerment. The event showcased an array of stunning sustainable outfits designed by the talented Titchene Deaf Designers, a collective of Deaf creatives whose work has been gaining recognition for its bold aesthetics and environmentally conscious practices.

Each outfit on the runway told its own story, from upcycled bin bags, bottle top masterpieces to beautifully handmade outfits made. Models strutted down the runway in clothing that highlighted modern innovation, as guests applauded the fusion of fashion and sustainability.

“This isn’t just about clothes,” said the event’s organizer, Katiana LaFrance, the executive director of Tikonze Apapa. “It’s about showing that sustainable fashion can be inclusive, empowering, and proudly Malawian.”

Adding to the magic of the event was a breathtaking performance by Malawian music sensation Piksy, who brought the crowd to their feet with his soulful sounds and energetic stage presence. The live performance added an electric vibe to the afternoon, bridging fashion and music in perfect harmony.

Tikonze Apapa’s “Sustainable Satur-day” is being hailed as a model for how fashion shows can make a difference, not just in terms of style, but in supporting marginalized voices and promoting a greener future.

As the event closed, guests left inspired and moved, with many already looking forward to the next edition.
